About The Position

The Elementary School Student Aide assists teachers by tutoring students in literacy and math programs. Aides may also help with lunch hours, after-school care, and bus duty, and may participate in Breakfast Buddies if interested. The work takes place at Lafayette Upper Elementary, approximately a five-minute drive from the University of Mary Washington campus. Students must provide their own transportation.

Requirements

• Must be approved by the Office of Financial Aid.
• Must be eligible for Federal Work Study and have completed a FAFSA.
• Must have at least a 2.0 GPA.
• Must be a current UMW student.
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Patient and friendly, with the ability to multitask.
• Preferable background working with children.
• Must provide own transportation to Lafayette Upper Elementary.
• Selected candidates, excluding current UMW employees, must pass a criminal history background check. Employment verification and current or previous supervisory reference checks will be conducted; additional checks may be required for certain positions.

Nice To Haves

• A résumé is preferred but not required.
• Background working with children is preferable.
• Interest in participating in Breakfast Buddies.
