The Elementary School Guidance Counselor will promote a positive, non-threatening school environment that actively stimulates the involvement of students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the SBDM Council. This role serves as an advocate for all students, assisting them with academic, vocational, and personal problems. The counselor will also conduct classroom guidance activities, disseminate educational and vocational information, and provide individual and small group counseling sessions as needed. Collaboration with teachers, parents, and outside agencies is a key aspect of this position, as is participation in curriculum planning, behavior management, and conflict resolution. The counselor will also coordinate services for children with outside agencies, serve as a resource person, and make home visits if necessary. Additionally, the role involves assisting with drug education coordination, school administration tasks, and providing documented follow-up after referrals. The counselor will administer and coordinate assessment tools, act as a building coordinator for testing, and interpret test results to teachers and parents. Responsibilities also include evaluating students for Special Education, screening for ADHD, participating in ARC meetings, and assisting in the development of I.E.P.s. The counselor will maintain permanent records, process transcripts, and consult on the development of programs for exceptional children. Finally, the role involves conducting detailed individual analyses of students' educational problems and providing clinical and diagnostic information regarding emotional and psychological issues that interfere with learning, referring to a psychologist when necessary. The counselor will also inform parents of special needs and perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
