About The Position

The Elementary Reading Academies Cohort Leader will attend all trainings regarding the implementation of the Reading Academies. This role will effectively plan and deliver Reading Academy content as prescribed by TEA, including the evaluation of artifacts. The Cohort Leader will coordinate and implement both hands-on and digital, interactive Reading Academy sessions, including the Science of Teaching Reading. This position will design and implement on-site, job-embedded coaching around best practices in literacy using Reading Academy and district resources. The Cohort Leader will provide high quality, hands-on staff development, collaborate with teachers, and advise campus staff on the implementation of the Reading Academies, elementary reading/language arts TEKS, the district curriculum, and reading and writing workshop. This role will support campus staff with the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment through data analysis, planning, modeling lessons, training, and consulting. The Cohort Leader will assist in the development of curriculum and assessment products, including the district benchmarks, grade level specific curriculum, and other literacy-based resources, to support the implementation of the reading/language arts TEKS. This position will also assist in the selection and implementation of literacy resources and staff development materials. The Cohort Leader will attend and assist with the facilitation of Instructional Specialist meetings and other literacy-related events, and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized, accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certification in elementary education, reading specialization preferred
  • Minimum of four (4) years of successful experience as an elementary reading/language arts teacher
  • Demonstrated commitment to life-long learning that supports high-quality first-time instruction, including the use of technology
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and write curriculum
  • Demonstrated ability to lead professional learning
  • Demonstrated ability to manage data
  • Demonstrated skills in leading, motivating, and cooperating with other teachers, campus administrators, and district personnel
  • Successful completion of the Reading Academy Cohort Leader screener (refer to the TEA website)
  • Ability to attend the Cohort Leader Trainings as needed
