About The Position

Plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological growth and maturation. This role involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, developing and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning, and preparing for classes. The teacher will strive to implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals, taking precautions to protect students and school property. The position requires diagnosing learning abilities, evaluating student progress, and maintaining accurate records. The teacher will assist in upholding school rules and policies, and be available for parent communication outside of instructional hours. Collaboration with other teachers, supervision of students, participation in faculty meetings and committees, and assisting in the selection of instructional materials are also key aspects of this role. The teacher will accept shared responsibility for co-curricular activities, establish open communication with students and parents, and maintain cooperative relations with others. Professional growth is expected in accordance with state and federal regulations, and the teacher will represent the school positively in the community. Demonstrating a positive attitude, acting as a positive role model, and a desire to see all students succeed are essential. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. The role may include administering health services in the absence of a school health professional and meeting the Standards and Indicators set forth in the Certified Personnel Evaluation Plan. Adherence to the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified School Personnel, district/school employee handbooks, Owensboro Board of Education policies, and applicable laws and regulations is mandatory. Performs all other functions deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor that are reasonable and are covered by local board policy or law.

Requirements

  • Valid Kentucky Teacher Certificate for Elementary Education
  • Statement of Eligibility for Elementary Education
  • Experience with students in area of certification
  • Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer, e-mail, and websites

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes at the times designated.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows documented evidence of preparation upon request of administrator.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain high expectations of classroom behavior.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, to meet the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Diagnoses the learning abilities of students and evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policies.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms through appropriate parent teacher conferences.
  • Individually and cooperatively works with other teachers, supervises pupils in and out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on assigned committees.
  • Cooperates with all members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Accepts a shared responsibility for co-curricular activities.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
  • Provides for his/her own professional growth in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Represents the school in the community effectively and in a positive manner.
  • Maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and act as a positive role model for kids.
  • Demonstrate a desire to see all students learn and succeed.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Responsible for professional growth in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Administer health services to students as necessary in absence of school health professional.
