About The Position

The Elementary Music Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing standards-based music instruction for students in grades K-5. This role involves teaching fundamental music concepts, providing instruction in singing and instruments, organizing student performances, and differentiating instruction to meet diverse learning needs. The teacher will also assess student progress, maintain records, and foster a positive classroom environment. Collaboration with colleagues, parents, and participation in professional development are key aspects of this position.

Requirements

  • Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate (JX or QJ)
  • Strong classroom management and instructional skills
  • Knowledge of child development and elementary curriculum

  • Experience teaching at the elementary level preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement standards-based elementary music instruction for students in grades K-5 (or assigned grade levels).
  • Teach fundamental music concepts including rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, dynamics, movement, listening, and music appreciation.
  • Provide instruction in singing, classroom instruments, movement, and performance techniques.
  • Organize and direct student performances, concerts, assemblies, and special programs.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Integrate technology and multimedia resources into music instruction when appropriate.
  • Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of achievement and participation.
  • Use developmentally appropriate instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Implement classroom management strategies consistent with school and district expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in grade-level teams and professional learning communities.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of IEPs, 504 Plans, and other student support plans.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school events.
  • Uphold district policies, school procedures, and professional ethics.
