Elementary Music Teacher
About The Position
St. Thecla Catholic School is seeking a dedicated Elementary Music Teacher to lead its music program for students in Kindergarten through eighth grade. This role involves cultivating a passion for music while nurturing students' musical, academic, social, and spiritual development. The teacher will design and implement dynamic lessons covering music appreciation, vocal and instrumental performance, rhythm, movement, and music literacy in a supportive classroom setting. The position requires upholding the school's mission and values, integrating faith-based elements into instruction, and modeling Christian conduct.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field.
- Valid teaching certification/license preferred or required according to state guidelines.
- Knowledge of elementary music instruction and child development.
- Ability to direct student performances and manage classroom behavior effectively.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Teachers in the Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and/or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan.
- Must complete fingerprinting, background check, and the Protecting God’s Children virtual workshop prior to working with students.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate music instruction aligned with curriculum standards and school expectations.
- Teach fundamental music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, dynamics, and music appreciation.
- Prepare students for seasonal programs and performances.
- Integrate creativity, movement, and participation into daily lessons.
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes respect, cooperation, and enthusiasm for music.
- Maintain classroom instruments, music resources, and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and upcoming performances.
- Uphold school policies, procedures, and educational mission.
- Support and promote the mission and values of St. Thecla Catholic School.
- Incorporate faith-based values and appropriate sacred music into instruction.
- Model Christian behavior and values in all interactions with students, families, and staff.
