About The Position

Under the direction of the site administrator and/or the Director of Assessment and Educational Services, the Elementary Music Teacher will be responsible for music instruction and methods. The ability to apply differentiated instruction methods to teach students in small or large group lessons, composed of students with skills at varying levels, is essential. The Elementary Music Teacher will develop knowledge and skills of students in music, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques, to develop the reading and listening of music, introduce various genres of music and utilize techniques appropriate to student's interests and abilities. The Elementary Music Teacher will support all students and work collaboratively and independently with all constituents in a diverse environment committed to equity and student social-emotional wellness. The Elementary Music Teacher will organize and teach multiple classes in the field of music education with proficiency in both vocal and instrumental music.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid California Single Subject Music Credential with English Leamer Authorization or CLAD certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in instrumental and/or choral music to elementary students utilizing appropriate learning activities and aligned with the visual and performing arts standards.
  • Exhibit an in-depth understanding of effective ways of learning music, demonstrate proper technique for instrumental and vocal music, utilize technology-based instructional strategies, and incorporate musical performances.
  • Plan a balanced and rigorous music program in alignment, collaboration and coordination with our middle school music program.
  • Provide individual and small group instruction as is necessary to develop the skills of students.
  • Encourages students to develop individual musical skills.
  • Demonstrate the connection that diversity is where deep and rich learning occurs and that it establishes a learning environment where all students are welcomed, valued, and challenged to be their best.
  • Utilize a diverse repertoire of music literature including traditional, contemporary and multicultural pieces that are appropriate and representative of the skill and age of the students.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment during lessons and performances.
  • Evaluate each student's progress and growth in meeting the visual and performing arts standards.
  • Plan, rehearse and direct students in musical performances appropriate for the school and community.
  • Maintain professional growth through participation in professional development opportunities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth opportunities related to music.
  • Communicate and build collaborative relationships with staff, students and families.
  • Maintains exclusive confidentiality of all student and staff issues.
  • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
