About The Position

The Elementary Lunchroom Supervisor supervises the lunchroom and playground to help create a safe and pleasant environment for staff and students. The role involves actively monitoring students, maintaining discipline, assisting younger children, and communicating with teachers about student-related problems or situations. The position is not within the collective bargaining unit, is not administrative, and is not exempt. It is scheduled on student contact days, approximately 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (listed as 2 hours), at a pay rate of $18.10 per hour. The start date is listed as “ASAAP.”

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate and interact appropriately with children and adults.
• Ability to follow simple oral or written instructions.
• Ability to walk, bend, reach, and engage in physical activity regularly.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working with children.
• Recreation background.
• Knowledge of peer mediation and conflict resolution techniques, and ability to apply them to lunchroom and playground situations.
• Knowledge of First Aid.

Responsibilities

• Maintain discipline by enforcing safety rules in the lunchroom, playground, and activity room.
• Help younger students open cartons, wrappers, and similar items when they cannot do so independently.
• Monitor situations in the lunchroom or on the playground and intervene to defuse problems before they escalate.
• Interact with students in a fair and consistent manner.
• Keep teachers informed about problems or situations involving their students.
• Follow guidelines and protocols for the assigned building.
• Actively supervise students by moving throughout the work area as needed.
• Perform tasks involving consistent mobility, including walking, bending, reaching, and other physical activity.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
