About The Position

Fleming County Schools is seeking an Elementary Arts & Humanities Teacher. This position is responsible for fulfilling the requirements of classroom instruction with punctuality, reliability, and responsibility. The teacher will engage in effective unit and lesson planning, recognize and address student differences in needs, abilities, and interests, and impart instruction accordingly. The role involves maintaining standards through classroom management techniques that result in a positive atmosphere for teaching and learning, and performing other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.

Requirements

Valid Kentucky teacher certification for the grade level/content

Responsibilities

Has a prepared unit plan that is appropriate for classroom/content/grade level assignment.
Exercise proper care of materials and equipment.
Communicate needs of the classroom to the proper personnel.
Arrive for work at the assigned hour and does not leave before the assigned time.
Communicate appropriately and effectively with other staff members, parents, students, and with administration.
Accept assistance, advice, and guidance from those responsible for supervising his/her performance, and make a concerted effort toward improving or refining skills.
Share ideas, plans, materials, and facilities.
Alert to the district’s, school’s, and his/her own goals and priorities and seeks professional learning appropriate to these needs.
Keep in confidential information that has been obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves professional purpose or is required by law.
The teacher, in his/her association with others, respects the rights, feelings, and differences among individuals, and communicates directly with the person(s) involved in any situation.
Adhere to professional code of ethics stipulated by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board.
Maintains standards - Employ classroom management techniques that result in a positive atmosphere for teaching and learning.
The teacher begins the class promptly.
The teacher communicates to students those behaviors expected of them, or there is evidence that expected behaviors have been communicated.
The students exhibit classroom behaviors, which promotes active engagement from all participants in the lesson.
Inappropriate behaviors receive immediate and appropriate teacher intervention.
The teacher chooses appropriate materials and/or equipment for teaching a lesson.
The teacher handles efficiently the materials and/or equipment in the classroom setting.
Follow school or district-established curriculum documents and processes.
Establish appropriate objectives (or learning targets) for each unit/lesson.
Utilize effective teaching strategies to promote student engagement and achievement.
Communicates with the student the objective of the lesson.
Communicate with the student the purpose of the learning and makes learning/content relevant.
Relate the learning from the lesson being taught to previous learnings and assists students in making connections.
Communicate with students are told how they will be accountable for demonstrating proficiency in the learning.
Demonstrate sound, up-to-date knowledge of the subject matter being taught.
Check periodically throughout the lesson for the students’ understanding of the objective.
Provide practice experiences for the student of the appropriate number and variety to insure mastery of the objective.
Demonstrate knowledge of reinforcement theory throughout the lesson.
Each aspect of the lesson gives evidence of the teacher’s attention to maintaining a classroom climate conducive to learning (Feeling Tone).
The activities of the lesson demonstrate the teacher’s desire to include the interests of the students in the classroom.
Encourage, praise, and/or acknowledge student effort appropriately.
Manage instruction in such a way that each student demonstrates a measure of success.
There is evidence that practice is scheduled in such a manner as to guarantee retention of learnings.
Gives students the opportunity to verbalize the critical attribute(s) of the learning before leaving the lesson.
Collect data from the lesson that enables him/her to evaluate each student’s performance, and assists in planning tomorrow’s lesson.
Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
