About The Position

This role utilizes the nursing process and critical thinking in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients. The nurse will perform assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care. They will administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies, procedures, standards of care, and state laws and practice acts. Accurate and comprehensive documentation is essential. The nurse will develop, initiate, and execute a patient plan of care according to individualized needs, as prescribed by the physician and hospital policy. They will utilize available resources to teach and support patient and family education, providing education at the appropriate level of understanding. Participation in department or unit performance improvement activities, including shared governance, is expected. The nurse will use clinical expertise and guidance to other units and departments in support of the patient's longitudinal plan of care, acting to resolve systems breakdowns and engaging self and others in providing solutions. Critical thinking regarding patient safety and patient experience is crucial, managing complex situations and delegating appropriately. Escalation to the appropriate chain of command is necessary. The role positively influences professional and organizational environments and shared governance. Engagement in personal development and support for system-entity opportunities for continuous learning and growth, including developing or revising evidence-based practice guidelines, is required. Support and participation in peer review and peer feedback opportunities are also part of the role. For Clinic and Ambulatory RNs, maintaining timely patient flow, responding to telephone calls, and performing telephone triage of patients are additional responsibilities. Illinois requires 10 hours of continued education for licensure.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
ADN upon hire, BSN preferred.
May require specific years of applicable experience to qualify per department guidelines.
Licensed as an RN in state of practice.
Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
Other certification or certifications per unit requirements. For example: ACLS, PALS, PEARS, and NRP.

Provides education to the appropriate level of understanding.
Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities, which may include shared governance.
Utilizes clinical expertise and guidance to other units and departments in support of the patient longitudinal plan of care.
Acts to resolve systems breakdowns and engages self and others in providing solutions.
Utilizes critical thinking in regards to patient safety and patient experience, manages complex situations and delegates to other staff appropriately.
