About The Position

This position provides statewide radio installation and vehicle upfitting support for the Department of Adult Corrections. The role ensures all communication and safety equipment is properly installed, tested, and maintained, while also supporting tower site preparation, inventory management, and specialized vehicle security modifications.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience using power meters, electronic frequency counters, frequency generators, spectrum analyzers, multi-meters, service monitors and/or computer software to troubleshoot, isolate and/or repair radio equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in reading, and/or tracing circuit paths down to the component level and perform component level repair.
  • Proven knowledge of networking and/or some proficiency in electronic repair, using computers and multiple software applications with radio networking applications.
  • Familiarity with the installation, maintenance, and repair of radio telecommunications equipment, network switching equipment are desired areas of knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of FCC rules and regulations relating to the installation, maintenance, and operations of radio transmitting and receiving equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, test, and troubleshoot mobile radio systems using diagnostic tools such as power meters, frequency counters, service monitors, and specialized software.
  • Review and evaluate radio equipment for structural integrity, frequency accuracy, and compatibility with vehicle systems.
  • Install and modify vehicle security components including partitions, security screens, GPS units, fire extinguishers, and lighting packages.
  • Read, interpret, and troubleshoot complex circuit diagrams; perform component‑level repairs and factory‑approved circuit board modifications.
  • Diagnose and repair communications cabling from antennas through base units and remote head assemblies.
  • Assist engineering teams with site surveys and preparations for radio communication towers, including antenna, cabling, and base‑station installations.
  • Manage inventory, including receiving shipments of radios, parts, and accessories, and overseeing surplus radio and vehicle equipment.
  • Lead and guide inmate work crews in completing vehicle security installations and assist in retrieving inoperable vehicles for equipment removal and surplus processing.
