About The Position

Fontanini, a Hormel Foods family company, is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician with strong PLC knowledge for their plant in McCook, IL. The Manufacturing Electronics Technician will apply advanced technical knowledge to design, purchase, install, program, and troubleshoot electrical, electronic, and computerized control systems within the plant. This role involves an alternative work schedule, including Saturdays and Sundays.

Requirements

Possess a two (2) year engineering technology degree or equivalent experience.
Ability to repair equipment using hand tools.
Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting ability.
Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
Ability to read the input/output of electrical schematics.
Knowledge of PLC’s (Programmable Logic Controllers).
Demonstrated work experience in a team environment.
Demonstrated ability to learn and use custom equipment and assist in installations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Initiative to work independently.
Lift, carry or move light/heavy loads up to 50lbs.
Crawl over, under and into equipment as necessary to perform job duties.
Work weekends when plant enters busy season and when needed.
Previous experience working in a manufacturing setting preferably food manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Designs and implements electronic based control systems utilizing programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), personal computers and manufacturer’s design software.
Works with electrical personnel on installations or maintenance of equipment.
Ensures that new or existing equipment control systems are properly functioning and maintained.
Provides support for plant metal detection, scales, and IT (Information Technology) systems as required.
Assists mechanical personnel with breakdowns when technical advice is needed to get the equipment back operating as soon as possible.
Documents changes and information on electric schematics and breaker panel sheets, makes backup copies of PLC programs and PC applications along with the inventory of electronic parts as needed.
Specifies parts required. Orders if needed and makes needed repairs.
Assists with training new and/or less skilled maintenance and production personnel.
Troubleshoots basic electrical problems using various test equipment and ladder logic diagrams.
Follows all safety and company policies.
Participates in safety and quality trainings.
Additional duties as assigned.
