About The Position

This position requires a skilled Electronics Specialist with a strong background in telecommunications and digital systems. The role involves maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various electronic equipment within the electrical utility industry. The specialist must be capable of working independently and as part of a team, adhering to safety protocols, and demonstrating proficiency with electronic test equipment and tools. A willingness to travel, work irregular hours, and perform tasks at heights is essential.

Requirements

Satisfactory work record.
Successful completion of Tri-State’s Electronics Specialist Apprentice Program OR Eight (8) years of combined education and experience in electronic fields.
Equivalent of technical training received in an Associate Degree program in Electronics Engineering Technology with advance studies in radio communications (including microwave) and digital systems (including microprocessors, peripheral equipment, and programming).
Six years of practical experience in maintenance of electronic telecommunications and digital systems.
One year of practical experience in maintenance of two-way radio, microwave radio, fiber optic and carrier systems.
One year of practical experience in maintenance of digital remote terminal units, microprocessors, and computer systems.
Capability of satisfactorily interpreting electrical schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and control logic.
Possession of, or ability to obtain within 6 months, a valid Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Air Brake Restrictions.
Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a First Aid and CPR Certification within 6 months of hire.
Ability to perform First Aid and CPR.
Willingness to work in and around high voltages.
Willingness to accept overnight travel up to 75% of working time.
Ability to reside within 60 minutes response time from your regular reporting location.
Willingness and ability to work extra and irregular hours.
Willingness and ability to work under unusual or special working conditions such as storms, extreme temperatures, winds, darkness, etc.
Sufficient knowledge and skill in the safe use of basic hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment.
Basic computer knowledge.
Ability to work with small components, including fiber optic cables and connectors.
Willingness and ability to demonstrate the ability to climb steel or wooden structures and work at various heights.

Credit towards the term of apprenticeship may be granted to new apprentices who demonstrate previous acquisition of skills or knowledge equivalent to that which would be received under the Standards of Apprenticeship (Internal Bidder).
Management will review an external applicant's education and experience to determine credit and/or step placement in the apprenticeship program (External Applicant).

Responsibilities

Complete a successful Background Check, Personal Risk Assessment, and Fair Credit Reporting Act Form if required.
Maintain a satisfactory work record.
Successfully pass the Tri-State Transmission “Telecom Qualification” Test with 75% or better score.
Successfully complete Tri-State’s Electronics Specialist Apprentice Program OR possess eight (8) years of combined education and experience in electronic fields.
Interpret electrical schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control logic.
Maintain a valid Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no Air Brake Restrictions, or obtain one within 6 months.
Obtain and maintain a First Aid and CPR Certification within 6 months of hire, and be able to perform First Aid and CPR.
Work in and around high voltages common to the electrical utility industry.
