About The Position

Based in Saint Inigoes, MD (NAWC Webster Field), you will support the Identification Systems Division (IDS) in a critical role ensuring the readiness of the AN/UPX-29(V) Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system. This position provides a unique blend of domestic and international support, spanning the IFF Foreign Military Sales (FMS) spectrum, the U.S. Navy’s Fleet Modernization Program, and ISEA requirements. You will act as a technical touchpoint for the fleet, providing expert guidance to junior sailors and ensuring the successful integration of IFF capabilities worldwide.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related electronics experience.
  • Navy NEC 1572 (AIMS Technician).
  • Navy NEC 1571 or V06B (AN/UPX-29(V) Ship System Maintainer).
  • A documented equivalent from another military service.
  • Strong working knowledge of basic electronic theory.
  • Proven experience troubleshooting electronic systems, including the alignment and adjustment of electronic equipment and components.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, detailed work instructions, and technical test procedures.
  • Hands-on experience with standard electronic test equipment, including: Multimeters and Oscilloscopes, Megohmmeters and Synchro Testers, VSWR Testers.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing aloft on U.S. Navy vessels and lifting/carrying heavy objects.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Solder Technician (specializing in SMT, lead-free, and through-hole).
  • Certified Cable Fabricator.
  • Experience in computer troubleshooting and general hardware maintenance.
  • Certified Quality Assurance Inspector for solder and cable fabrication.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9000 standards and familiarity with Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • OSHA-Maritime (OSHA 1915) training certification.
  • Practical knowledge of the RMMCO Alteration Installation Team (AIT) check-in/checkout process or general Fleet Modernization Program processes.

Responsibilities

  • Execute onsite test events, system assessments, and Fleet Modernization installations across the FMS and USN spectrum.
  • Inspect, test, and certify circuit boards and systems for compliance; troubleshoot complex malfunctions using electronics theory and precision tools (oscilloscopes, synchro testers, multi-meters).
  • Perform critical IFF system assessments, including ALOAs, CSSQTs, and MCAs, and lead Mode 5 and Mode S system upgrades.
  • Provide rapid-response support through On-Board Technical Assistance (OBTA) calls.
  • Act as a technical resource for junior sailors and peers, actively promoting the dissemination of knowledge and investing in the professional growth of the team.
  • Maintain professional communication with ship’s force, government customers, and BAE Systems project leadership.
