Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic

Air National Guard Units•Boise, ID

About The Position

This is a National Guard Title 32 excepted service position with the ID 124 AMXS. The position is indefinite, not to exceed five years, and may non-competitively convert to a permanent position. Members who do not currently have a 7-level qualification will start as WG-12 per PDR 16-21. National Guard membership in a compatible military assignment is required before the effective date of placement, and the selectee must wear the military uniform. The mechanic performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on complex electronic integrated aircraft systems. Work includes inspections, operational checks, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, replacing and aligning components and Line Replaceable Units (LRUs), and calibrating test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment. The mechanic uses technical orders, schematics, wiring diagrams, tools and test equipment, including automatic test equipment and Flight Line Test Systems, to isolate malfunctions and verify repairs. The position maintains and repairs integrated avionics systems and related components, which may include flight-control, navigation, communications, countermeasures, display, engine, hydraulic, fuel-quantity, and instrumentation systems. The mechanic analyzes system behavior and failure data, determines repair sequences, evaluates interactions among integrated systems, and performs final alignments and calibrations. The role also reviews maintenance data and proposes procedural or technical-data changes, preventative maintenance actions, and equipment improvements. It may include work on prototype or experimental systems, advising Aerospace Engineering personnel on proposed modifications, and troubleshooting with aircrews during mission or sortie debriefs. The position requires experience or training in multi-system avionics maintenance, with specialized qualifications corresponding to GS-12 or GS-13 work. There are no additional educational requirements. The position is indefinite and expected to last more than one year but no more than five consecutive years.

Requirements

  • National Guard membership in a compatible military assignment is required before placement; applicants not already members must be eligible for immediate membership in the military grade listed.

  • Ability to read and interpret material and apply procedures and directives.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and demonstrate understanding of the basic principles and concepts of the occupational series and grade.
  • For GS-12 specialized experience: experience or training repairing, aligning, and adjusting major integrated electronic systems such as inertial navigation, automatic flight control, or fire control systems.
  • For GS-12 specialized experience: knowledge of electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems and how malfunctions affect interrelated units; electronic theory and practices; integrated-system technologies; and algebra and basic trigonometry.
  • For GS-12 specialized experience: ability to follow integrated-system drawings, trace effects between subsystems, determine needed adjustments, and diagnose and determine repairs for complex electronic-system malfunctions.
  • For GS-13 specialized experience: experience or training repairing, overhauling, rebuilding, aligning, and adjusting complete multisystems in highly automated aircraft.
  • For GS-13 specialized experience: comprehensive knowledge of major multisystem units, their independent functions, subsystem interfaces, and interactions; sequential troubleshooting; electromagnetic propagation, electronic circuits, computer theory, and hydraulic or pneumatic control and power systems.
  • For GS-13 specialized experience: ability to interpret complex multisystem drawings, isolate malfunctions across closely integrated systems, and determine repair methods.
  • Perform on-equipment or off-equipment maintenance on complete electronic integrated systems associated with the assigned aircraft and/or automatic flight-control, instrument, inertial-navigation, and radar-navigation systems.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period and pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
  • The selectee is required to wear the military uniform.
