About The Position

This position is for New York City Transit and involves maintaining, installing, inspecting, testing, altering, and repairing electronic communication systems and control equipment. The role requires a strong understanding of both wired and wireless systems, as well as digital and analog control equipment. Responsibilities include performing circuit testing, fault identification, and maintaining records. The job may involve working in various environments, including shops and the field, and may require working various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The role also requires the ability to drive motor vehicles and perform related tasks. Candidates must pass a probationary period and may be required to complete a formalized training course.

Requirements

For Revenue Equipment Maintainer: Two years of full-time journey-level experience in maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing equipment incorporating microprocessors, and related electronic equipment.
For Revenue Equipment Maintainer: Experience must be preceded by one of the following: two years of full-time experience as a technician, technician’s helper, apprentice or trainee performing or assisting in the work described; OR graduation from a trade school or technical school with a major in electrical, electronic, electromechanical, or computer technology (600 hours); OR graduation from a vocational high school with a major in electrical, electronic, electromechanical, or computer technology; OR an associate degree or higher in electrical, electronic, electromechanical, or computer technology from an accredited college or university.
For Electronic Equipment Maintainer (Internal Candidates): Permanently employed in the title of Transit Electrical Helper working in Electronic Equipment Maintenance for at least one year by the first date of the assessment.
For Electronic Equipment Maintainer (External Candidates): Three years of full-time satisfactory experience at the journey level in the maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, calibrating, and repair of complex electronic equipment employing analog and digital circuitry.
For Electronic Equipment Maintainer (External Candidates): OR Two years of full-time satisfactory experience at the journey level as described above, plus completion of one of the following before obtaining journey-level experience: two years of full-time satisfactory experience as a technician’s helper, apprentice or trainee; OR graduation from a trade school or technical school with a major in electrical or electronic technology (600 hours); OR graduation from a vocational high school with a major in electrical or electronic technology; OR an associate’s degree in electrical or electronic technology, electrical engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
Must have a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York with no disqualifying restrictions.
Must pass a drug screening.
Must be able to understand and be understood in English.
Must be able to prove identity and right to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

Test, diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on bus and subway Automated Fare Collection Equipment and point of sale devices.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, remove, and replace electronic circuit boards, wiring harnesses, electronic and electromechanical modular units, and other components using digital multimeters, wiring schematics, palmtop computers, and other special test equipment.
Remove and replace revenue equipment items, such as fare boxes, turnstile assemblies, and fare vending machine assemblies.
Keep records and prepare reports.
Drive motor vehicles between work sites, including cars, light trucks, and vans.
Maintain, install, inspect, test, alter, and repair electronic wireless and wired communication systems, and digital and analog control equipment and systems in the shop or in the field, including radio systems, closed circuit video equipment, and other electronic communication equipment.
Perform circuit testing, analysis, and fault identification.
Operate motor vehicles.
Undergo a formalized training course during the probationary period.
