Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing.
  • Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Strong computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two years-experience as a practical nurse in a hospital or clinic setting preferred but not required.
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central venous access devices and alternate delivering systems
  • Prep lab specimens for send out.
  • Assess patients for changes in condition, including but not limited to abnormal labs, x-rays, scans.
  • Set up procedures (i.e. port placement and blood transfusion), referrals, and obtain prior authorization.
  • Obtain pathology reports, manage faxes, and return emergent and non-emergent patient phone calls.
  • Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow.
  • Documents all elements of care.
  • Serve as a resource to the Medical Assistants.
  • Communicate all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician, nurse, or advanced practice provider
  • Assess patient and family needs.
  • Complete new patient chart prep for physician team ensuring all elements of the patients work up is available to for review upon first appointment with provider.
  • Managing and triaging incoming patient portal messages.
  • Responding to items that are appropriate for the skill level without supervision.
  • Refills prescription requests that come through the portal and address 2FA prescriptions to the appropriate provider.
