About The Position

Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance, automation and installation of machines, tools, equipment and in the maintenance of buildings, and utility systems of the plant. Leads plant efforts in standardizing plant equipment and automating production machinery operation and reliability personally or through the leadership & development of assigned employees.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance or technical instructions, procedure manuals, and government regulations.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondences.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to observe and understand manufacturing processes and apply technical innovation.
  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent and eight to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Directly supervises 3-10 employees in the maintenance section. Carries out supervisory & automation responsibilities; in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews job orders to determine work priorities and schedules repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production operations.
  • Assesses plant equipment and identifies opportunities for standardizing operator interface with the equipment.
  • Coordinates activities of workers fabricating or modifying machines, tools, or equipment to manufacture new products or improve existing products.
  • Learns operator actions for equipment operation and identifies opportunities for automation.
  • Directs maintenance activities on electronic system evaluations and automation opportunities in support of production operations with a goal of standardization and equipment reliability.
  • Prepares appropriation requests for equipment installations and modifications to existing equipment.
  • Performs the planning function for installation and modification projects.
  • Develops preventive maintenance programs in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff.
  • Develops PLC, HMI, and Drive Control programming to accomplish project objectives, increase equipment functionality, and reliability.
  • Reviews production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities.
  • Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
  • Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
  • Reviews new product plans and discusses equipment needs and modifications with design engineers.
  • Troubleshoots machine problems.
  • Promotes and teaches good troubleshooting regimens.
  • Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies required for operations.
  • Directs training and indoctrination of workers to improve performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures.
  • Confers with management, engineering, production, and quality assurance personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
