About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for an Electromyography Technologist to join the Neuromuscular Disease team at Vancouver General Hospital. As an Electromyography Technologist with VCH, you will perform various diagnostic tests/techniques to assist physicians in detecting disorders of the brain and nervous system. You will operate electromyographic equipment to conduct electrophysiological tests such as evoked potential, nerve conduction velocity, muscle strength and repetitive stimulation, and perform other neurophysiological tests as required. You will also record measurements and formulate technical reports for interpretation by medical staff to assist with clinical diagnosis. Additionally, you will guide the clinical experience of assigned new staff and students and provide input to the supervisor as required. All work performed on electronic equipment and systems is done in accordance with, where applicable, bylaws, regulations, codes, and standards.

Requirements

  • Diploma from an accredited program in electroneurophysiology and one year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Successful writing of the Canadian Board of Registration of Electromyography Technologists of Canada (BRETC), the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM) or the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET) examination.
  • Ability to keep abreast of current professional standards and technical knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties accurately and maintain quality standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with current computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform duties of the position.
