Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technician / Neurodiagnostic Technologist

Program Management Solutions LLCLos Angeles, CA
$70,000 - $110,000Onsite

About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technician to provide critical neurodiagnostic services for the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. The selected candidate will operate state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment to record, monitor, and analyze electrical brain activity. Your work will directly support VA neurologists and physicians in diagnosing and managing complex neurological conditions—such as epilepsy, brain tumors, stroke, and sleep disorders—for our nation’s Veterans.

Requirements

  • Active R. EEG T. (Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist) credential from ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) is highly preferred/required.
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Graduate of an accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) program, or an equivalent combination of formal training and clinical experience.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience performing EEG testing in a hospital, neurology clinic, or clinical laboratory setting.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the international 10-20 system for electrode placement.
  • Strong knowledge of neuroanatomy, EEG technology waveforms, and standard activation protocols.
  • Exceptional patience and customer service skills, particularly when working with elderly, anxious, or neurologically compromised Veteran patients.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen (required for federal computer network access).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with long-term monitoring (LTM) or ICU monitoring is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for and conduct routine, extended, and complex EEG recordings (including sleep-deprived and bedside/ICU studies as required).
  • Explain the procedure to Veterans and their families to alleviate anxiety. Accurately measure and apply electrodes to the patient's scalp using the international 10-20 system, ensuring low impedance and patient comfort.
  • Monitor the patient’s brain waves in real-time. Identify, fix, and document technical artifacts (electrical interference, muscle movement) to ensure a clean data stream.
  • Closely observe the patient during testing, noting clinical signs or behavioral changes, particularly during seizure activity or activation procedures (such as photic stimulation and hyperventilation).
  • Analyze and abstract raw EEG data, marking abnormalities, spike activities, or slowing patterns to assist the reading Neurologist in generating an accurate diagnosis.
  • Ensure all neurodiagnostic equipment is calibrated, sanitized, and functioning properly in accordance with hospital safety and infection control guidelines.
  • Enter procedural data, patient history, and technical annotations accurately into the VA’s electronic healthcare record system in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
