About The Position

Zebra is seeking a strategic, entrepreneurial scientific leader specializing in electrochemistry and electronic system design to lead the development of flexible, roll-to-roll (R2R) devices and sensors. The role evaluates emerging technologies, sets technical direction, and leads hands-on work to move smart and intelligent label-sensing solutions from the laboratory toward commercialization. The position requires working at least three days per week in the Morris Plains, New Jersey office, with two days remote within the United States. The Fellow leads research and development involving printed batteries and electronics, sensors, energy harvesting, and other electrochemical and electronic devices using high-speed R2R processes. The role applies expertise in redox chemistry and electronics to improve battery performance and sensor capabilities, oversees laboratory prototyping with manufacturing scale-up in mind, and provides technical leadership and mentorship. The Fellow also communicates technology strategies to executives, manages project timelines and budgets and external collaborations, and contributes to intellectual property development. Performance indicators include technology progression from evaluation to proof of concept, commercialization and product-development transitions, delivery of prototype performance milestones, intellectual property generation, executive adoption of strategic initiatives, product performance improvements, and knowledge transfer through team training and mentorship.

  • Advanced degree(s) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering and Design, Materials Science, or a related field with a strong focus on electrochemistry.
  • At least 10 years of post-degree experience in an industrial or business-oriented R&D setting.
  • Demonstrated work experience with sensing solutions.
  • Experience with prototyping and hands-on laboratory work.
  • Experience setting strategy and providing technical direction.
  • Strong background bringing products from R&D through productization and to market.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at the executive level.
  • Experience working in large corporate structures.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability and desire to mentor other Fellows.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings clearly to executive and nontechnical audiences.
  • Extensive hands-on laboratory experience with electrochemical methods, including cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and galvanostatic cycling.
  • Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in advanced data analysis, statistical methods, and modeling relevant to electrochemistry.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to drive complex projects from concept to completion.
  • Ability to connect scientific and technical innovation with business strategy and market needs.
