About The Position

The Electro-Mechanical Technician supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Birdsboro Power Project’s mechanical, electrical, and associated control systems. The role performs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of rotating equipment, electrical components, and auxiliary plant systems. Working with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, contractors, and OEM representatives, the technician supports equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and improves plant performance. The Birdsboro Power Project is a 488-MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle facility in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, featuring a GE 7HA.02 gas turbine, a D650 steam turbine, and an HRSG. The role may include routine maintenance and scheduled outages, as well as callouts and on-call duty. It reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and receives general direction from plant management. This is a power plant work environment that may involve confined spaces, narrow areas, hazardous materials, fumes, extreme temperatures, noise, high heat, and varying outdoor weather. Physical requirements include extended standing, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Required protective equipment may include hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, hearing protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing, hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Respirator fit testing may be required. A post-offer physical examination and drug screening, as well as post-employment random drug screening, are part of the Fitness for Duty Program.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance within power generation, combined-cycle facilities, or comparable heavy industrial environments.
  • Hands-on knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including pumps, compressors, valves, bearings, seals, couplings, piping, switchgear, motors, motor control centers, transformers, VFDs, and electrical distribution equipment.
  • Ability to inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair equipment using diagnostic tools, precision instruments, and problem-solving techniques to identify faults, determine causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with CEMS, including maintenance and troubleshooting of emissions monitoring systems.
  • Skill in interpreting mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, P&IDs, equipment manuals, and OEM technical documentation.
  • Experience using CMMS, Microsoft Office, and related digital tools to manage work orders, document maintenance activities, maintain equipment records, and support reporting.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with plant personnel, contractors, and vendors.
  • Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license that remains in good standing.
  • Ability to meet the stated physical requirements and work safely in the described power plant environment.
  • Participation in the Fitness for Duty Program, including post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Electro-Mechanical Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent technical training, military experience, or relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Working knowledge of combustion turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, balance-of-plant equipment, associated instrumentation and control systems, and operating principles.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor equipment condition and performance, identify developing deficiencies, and recommend improvements to reliability, efficiency, and equipment life.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, contractors, and OEM representatives during repairs, system modifications, outages, testing, and capital improvement projects.
  • Assist with inspection, maintenance, and repair of combustion turbine, steam turbine, HRSG, cooling water, and balance-of-plant equipment.
  • Support maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems, including transmitters, control valves, sensors, PLCs, DCS, CEMS, and associated field devices.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical failures using diagnostic tools and implement corrective actions.
  • Inspect, test, and maintain switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, motors, batteries, chargers, inverters, and VFDs.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, compressors, fans, piping, and auxiliary plant systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and replace mechanical components such as bearings, seals, couplings, gearboxes, and actuators.
  • Conduct equipment alignments, lubrication, adjustments, component replacements, and mechanical repairs using appropriate tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Maintain accurate work orders, maintenance records, equipment histories, technical drawings, and repair documentation in the CMMS.
  • Follow safety procedures, including LOTO, electrical safety, and confined-space entry requirements, as well as applicable environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Complete additional maintenance assignments and special projects as needed to support safe and reliable plant operations.

Benefits

  • Eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
