About The Position

The Electro-Mechanical Technician 1 (EM Tech 1) will repair, service and install production equipment, machinery and related facility devices; maintain a variety of records; participate in special projects; and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Essential activities will include Preventative Maintenance (PM) repairs and servicing of equipment. The EM Tech 1 will be responsible for accurately installing, operating and cleaning these machines as needed, as well as recording maintenance data and logs as required by Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), supplemented by prompt and real-time communication.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or High school diploma with 2 - 5 years of experience in automated equipment.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • Must have the ability and knowledge of how to wire motors different voltages, read Electrical Schematics, understand bearing, gearboxes, conveyors and valves, lubrication methods, and use of tools and power tools.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where priorities change quickly.
  • Team oriented, but able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Takes the initiative and pro-actively seeks to resolve issues independently when discovered.
  • Motivated and engages fully in resolving issues with equipment and improving line efficiencies.
  • Must be able to proficiently and successfully install and program Drives, Prox sensors, photo eyes, Fiber optic and Laxer, as well as installation and wiring (NPN & PNP).
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in troubleshooting, repairing and calibrating on-stream process analytical instrumentation.
  • Have knowledge of basic functioning of servo motors.
  • Skill in the use of tools, meters, and diagnostic equipment peculiar to the repair and maintenance of treatment plant equipment is required.
  • Must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to communicate well within multiple associate levels, from general labor to management.
  • Must have the ability and knowledge of how to wire motors different voltages, read Electrical Schematics, understand bearing, gearboxes, conveyors and valves, lubrication methods, and use of tools and power tools.
  • Skill and proficiency in computer work processing programs.
  • Ability to learn and use the company’s computer systems as well as Microsoft applications.
  • May be designated to operate a machine as required.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime and/or weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of PLC’s including basic ladder logic concepts, installation, setup troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Basic knowledge of Robotics and vision systems.
  • Basic understanding of Lean Principles.

Responsibilities

  • Proficiently repairs, replaces, rebuilds and maintains, in accordance with the diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, motors, pneumatic tools, belts, fans, gaps, mechanical seals, conveyor systems and production machines and equipment, using hand tools, power tools and precision-measuring and testing instruments.
  • Properly performs preventive maintenance.
  • Maintains an awareness of equipment operation, especially excessive heat, vibration, and noise, reporting malfunctions, hazards or wear to supervisor.
  • Performs conveyor maintenance and repair, properly replacing bearings, chains and sprockets without assistance.
  • Performs equipment set-ups and change-overs as required without assistance.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices as needed. May repair electrical equipment as needed and as skills allow.
  • Successfully performs all routine tasks and applies skills and experience to solve non-routine mechanical and process issues.
  • Assists higher level Technicians with troubleshooting and repair.
  • Proficiently lubricates and cleans parts. Start devices to test their performance.
  • Accurately completes requisition forms as needed to order parts to keep the Production Lines in good general repair and to meet the GMP standards. Required to maintain logs and records as instructed.
  • Responsible for checking voltage, fuses and resistance with the use of a Volt-Ohm-Meter (VOM).
  • Competently uses and understands technical documents, including but not limited to: Maintenance Manuals, Schematics, Procedures, Repair Documents, etc.
  • Accurately and thoroughly completes and troubleshoots printer setup and code changes.
  • Correctly and efficiently uses the CMMS system as needed without assistance to maintain all repair and preventative maintenance (PM) records.
  • Observes and performs 5S in all areas.
  • Other duties, as needed.
