About The Position

Performs electro-mechanical assembly of flow cytometers, sub-assemblies, and related medical device products. Follows established methods and procedures to assemble optical, mechanical, fluidic, and electronic components and assemblies, applying high workmanship standards to produce quality products on schedule. Works efficiently on routine assignments, understands the implications of the work, and makes recommendations for improvement. Normally receives some instruction on daily work, exercises independent judgment for some activities, and uses a moderate degree of initiative. May be asked to lead or supervise other non-exempt personnel. Works in a team-oriented environment with assemblers, technicians, quality assurance personnel, and engineers, communicating effectively orally and in writing. The role is onsite in Milpitas, California, and the stated schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The assignment duration is 12 months, with possible extension. The listed maximum pay rate is $28; the rate will be determined at the time of offer.

Requirements

At least 2 years of related experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to communicate information effectively and respond to questions verbally and in writing.
Good mechanical aptitude, dexterity, and hand/eye coordination.
Ability to reach, bend, and lift 35 pounds daily.
PC or Mac user familiar with Word, Excel, and Windows and/or Mac OS.
Willingness to be trained in other production areas, including areas with lower skill-level requirements.
Knowledge of and adherence to safety procedures and programs.
Exposure to ISO 9000 and cGMP 21 CFR Part 820.
Ability to read and understand assembly instructions, work orders, Bills of Materials, Standard Operating Procedures, and related production documentation.

Nice To Haves

Associate degree or vocational instruction in electro-mechanical assembly.
Experience in a medical device manufacturing organization.
Experience building laser-based optical systems, fluidic systems, and digital and analog circuitry.
Extensive knowledge of PCs and networking environments.
Strong experience with Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
Strong knowledge of ISO 9000 and cGMP 21 CFR Part 820.
Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing, Six Sigma tools and concepts, and Demand Flow Technology (DFT).
Experience handling hand tools.

Responsibilities

Assemble instruments by following released procedures.
Perform in-process inspections to ensure products meet specifications and standards.
Generate required documentation to complete the Device History Record (DHR).
Read and understand assembly instructions, work orders, Bills of Materials, Standard Operating Procedures, and other documents used to control products and processes.
Consult with engineers, technicians, production personnel, and others about assembly procedures.
Support new product introductions and help determine, develop, and document optimal assembly methods.
Provide feedback on production methods and product design issues, and work to improve product quality and operational efficiency.
Support project teams working on quality improvement, cost reduction, cycle-time reduction, reliability improvement, operational efficiency, or new product introduction.
Assist in creating and updating process and product documentation.
Maintain productive working relationships within the work team and with other functions; collaborate with peers toward shared departmental goals.
Collect and document key measurements and data, review metrics regularly, and work to improve individual and group performance.
Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
Complete timesheets and other required paperwork accurately and on time, and keep the training file up to date.
Perform other duties as assigned.
