The Electrician handles electrical repairs and renovations to electrical systems in assigned buildings. The employee performs skilled work maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and replacing electrical systems and related equipment. The role includes supervisory duties such as instructing, assigning, and reviewing the work of a Trades Helper. Responsibilities include maintaining electrical equipment and systems such as scoreboards, public-address systems, buildings, pump motors, and field lighting; performing underground wiring and high-altitude lighting repairs; and providing services or installations for electrical problems as they arise. Current Parks and Recreation vacancies are for high-altitude work. The position requires driving a Parish vehicle, and it is designated as essential emergency-duty work: the employee may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation. Applicants must hold a current Class C or higher Jefferson Parish Electrical license, or may apply with a current Louisiana Electrical Work (Statewide) license issued by the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors, or proof of a current valid passing score on the licensing examination. A Jefferson Parish Electrical license is required for employment. Applicants using the statewide license or examination score have ten days after an employment offer to obtain a Class C or higher Jefferson Parish Electrical license; failure to do so disqualifies them from permanent employment. Related education, experience, or professional certifications beyond the minimum qualifications may be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.
