About The Position

UW Facilities Maintenance & Construction has an outstanding opportunity for an Electrician. This position is based at the Plant Services Building on the Seattle campus and is not eligible for telework. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor II and receiving day-to-day direction from the Electrician Lead, the Electrician performs journey-level electrical construction, installation, alteration, troubleshooting, and commissioning work on electrical systems up to 600 volts across more than 220 University facilities. The position supports the safe and reliable operation of campus infrastructure and works collaboratively with supervisors, other trades, contractors, and campus partners to deliver high-quality electrical services in support of the University community.

Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an electrician; OR full journey status as an electrician in a union; OR four years’ applicable work experience.
  • Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and practical experience with WISHA (Washington Industrial Safety and Health Administration) and OSHA regulations, the National Electrical Code (NEC), and applicable local electrical codes and ordinances.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow direction, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent productivity software.
  • Experience with electrical installations in institutional, industrial, and/or commercial environments, including working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Knowledge of and experience with predictive maintenance technologies, including vibration analysis, infrared thermography, data logging analysis, electric motor current analysis, variable frequency drive (VFD) troubleshooting, and power quality analysis.
  • Experience locating damaged direct-burial wiring, performing splice repairs, and operating lift trucks in congested street and sidewalk environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical construction, alteration, installation, retrofit, troubleshooting, commissioning, and repair work on lighting systems, electrical circuitry, raceways, panel boards, transformers, switchgear, distribution equipment, transfer switches, and grounding systems.
  • Install, modify, troubleshoot, and support startup of electrical systems using blueprints, schematics, specifications, and applicable electrical codes.
  • Develop cost estimates and recommendations for electrical construction, alteration, and installation projects as assigned.
  • Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, high rangers, and other equipment; load, unload, transport, and organize materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Operate UW vehicles, vans, and trucks to travel to and between job sites and support assigned work activities.
  • Keep leads and supervisors informed of project status, work progress, material and equipment needs, and scheduling impacts.
  • Coordinate with UW Facilities shops, campus partners, contractors, and stakeholders to support construction, renovation, alteration, and operational projects.
  • Provide professional customer service and may instruct or guide semiskilled workers.
  • Follow all applicable safety regulations, SDS requirements, Hazard Review Checklists (HRCs), PPE requirements, and UW safety policies and procedures.
  • Comply with UW and UW Facilities policies, procedures, Maintenance & Construction (M&C) protocols, and Individual Accountability Protocols (IAP).
  • Participate in required meetings, training, professional development, process improvement, performance metrics, and employee engagement activities.
  • Support management directives, uphold M&C mission and values, and perform other duties as assigned.
