About The Position

To perform a variety of skilled journey-level work required to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems. This role involves working with various electrical systems and equipment, including motors, lighting, control equipment, and power systems. The electrician will also be responsible for installing computer cable, telephone, and intercom wire, as well as working from plans, sketches, and blueprints to ensure compliance with codes. Cost estimation for labor and materials, requisitioning supplies, and troubleshooting high voltage equipment are also key aspects of the position. The role requires driving to various work sites and maintaining punctual attendance.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school
  • Four (4) years of increasingly responsible journey-level electrical experience.
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods and techniques used in skilled electrician work.
  • Working knowledge of safety practices, building codes, and National Electric Codes.
  • Knowledge of single and poly-phase motors, kitchen and refrigeration equipment.
  • Ability to operate power tools, meters, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, sketches, manuals, or work orders.
  • Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Ability to work safely and productively around students.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with District staff, co-workers, architects, civil engineers and other professionals when needed; work independently with limited direct supervision.
  • Ability to maintain simple and concise records and prepare accurate reports.
  • Ability to operate a computer and proprietary or mass market software such as MS Office and Google Suite.
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot and repair motors, bell, clock and lighting circuits, electrical control equipment, transformers, conduit and duct systems, fixtures and ballasts, and other types of electrical and power systems or equipment.
  • Check circuits and perform electrical repair of refrigeration, heating and ventilating equipment.
  • Install computer cable, telephone and intercom wire, jacks, data ports, or surveillance equipment.
  • Work from plans, sketches, blueprints, work orders or other instructions; interpret electrical plans and specifications; check for compliance with codes.
  • Estimate cost of labor and materials for projects or work orders; requisition parts or supplies as needed.
  • Clean, test, troubleshoot and repair high voltage equipment as necessary.
  • Drive a vehicle to and from work sites, suppliers and contractors.
  • Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
