About The Position

Under general supervision, installs or supports the installation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment; performs related work as assigned. Receives work orders or project assignment from supervisor. Assembles and prepares necessary materials to complete assignment. Maintains and installs electrical systems; installs electrical panels; replaces damaged outlets or switches. Troubleshoots and repairs refrigeration and air conditioning units. Performs a variety of building maintenance duties as assigned including demolition and/or construction of permanent or temporary interior walls, plaster patchwork, plumbing repairs, painting, and repair and installation of locks. Completes and submits routine reports and other paperwork in a timely manner. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND three (3) years of experience in commercial electrical work, or completion of a related apprenticeship program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid California Class C Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of City organization, operations, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code; State and local building codes.
  • Knowledge of Electrical circuits.
  • Knowledge of Electrical installations of 24 volt to 460-volt single phase and three phases.
  • Knowledge of Basic hand, power and technical tools utilized in the electrical and building maintenance trades.
  • Knowledge of Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and circuitry.
  • Reading and interpreting schematics and blueprints.
  • Installing, troubleshooting, repairing and operating electronic and electrical equipment and related circuitry, computers, and other related equipment.
  • Basic hand, power and technical tools utilized in the electrical and building maintenance trades.
  • Safely utilizing a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Utilizing health and safety precautions related to installation and repair of electrical systems.
  • Analyzing technical data to determine appropriate repairs.
  • Working flexible hours or on-call schedule.
  • Following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Verbal and written communications.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
