About The Position

The Electrician performs skilled electrical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of wiring, equipment, fixtures, and control systems across all Precinct 4 facilities. This role ensures safe, reliable electrical infrastructure that supports county operations, public spaces, and critical equipment. Work is performed with minimal supervision and requires strong technical competence, sound judgment, and adherence to all applicable codes and safety standards.

Requirements

  • One (1) year certificate from college or technical school OR At least three (3) months of related electrician experience and/or training
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may substitute for required experience.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • State of Texas Journeyman or Master Electrician License preferred
  • Experience with PLCs, industrial controls, or SCADA systems
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), OSHA electrical safety standards, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Experience working in public sector, parks, or facilities maintenance environments.
  • Ability to operate bucket trucks, lifts, or specialized electrical equipment.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills; ability to work effectively with internal staff and external contractors
  • Flexibility and openness to new ideas, technologies, and operational approaches.
  • Strong observational and diagnostic abilities with proactive initiative to complete tasks independently.
  • Professional communication skills, including clear verbal direction and polite interaction with staff and supervisors.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, operational manuals, and procedural documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports, maintain accurate records, and communicate effectively with department leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and execute new or modified electrical installations to maximize safety, efficiency, and future accessibility while minimizing material waste.
  • Interpret and utilize electrical diagrams, blueprints, and sketches, ensuring proper placement of concealed wiring during construction or renovation phases.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, and install electrical conduit systems.
  • Pull, route, and secure electrical wiring through conduit and other approved pathways.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair lighting systems ranging from office fixtures to pole-mounted field lights on structures up to 60 feet.
  • Splice and terminate wiring using approved techniques, including soldering, taping, caps, and connectors for both single-phase and three-phase systems.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical components of water wells, lift stations, and related operational infrastructure.
  • Install and maintain control and distribution equipment such as switches, relays, breakers, panels, and grounding systems.
  • Test electrical continuity, safety, and compatibility using tools such as ohmmeters, buzzers, oscilloscopes, or other diagnostic instruments.
  • Inspect installed systems for hazards, inefficiencies, or potential failures, recommending and performing adjustments or replacements as necessary.
  • Participate in after-hours on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests.
  • Support emergency or disaster operations as assigned before, during, or after events.
