About The Position

The Central Arizona Project (CAP) is seeking an Electrician for its Brawley Pumping Plant in Picture Rocks, Arizona. This role involves supporting local pumping plant operations in a heavy industrial hydroelectric environment. The electrician will perform preventative maintenance, project support, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on a variety of high, medium, and low voltage electrical systems. This includes rotating machinery, power circuit breakers, power transformers, protective relays, and electronic control systems. The position also requires operating, configuring, isolating, troubleshooting, and returning to service large pumping and generating plants and related systems. After training, the electrician will perform switching operations and clearance orders for safe working boundaries. This role is subject to call-outs for operational emergencies and requires pre-scheduled in-state travel, primarily Monday through Thursday, with occasional overnight stays.

Requirements

  • Completed a state or federal certified electrical apprenticeship OR possessing the equivalent combination of education, related experience and demonstrated ability.
  • At least three (3) years of journeyman-level work experience in an industrial electrical environment with technical and specialized knowledge.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Good driving record.
  • High school diploma (or GED).

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in rotating machinery, power circuit breakers, power transformers, protective relays, electronic control systems as well as various predictive test techniques and procedures.
  • Experience with control valves (up to 132-inch), compressors, bridge cranes, governors, heat exchangers, strainers, trash rakes, radial gates, piping and hydraulic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, project support, Project inspection, troubleshooting and repair on a wide variety of high, medium and low voltage electrical systems.
  • Operate, configure, isolate, troubleshoot and return to service large pumping and generating plants or other related facilities and systems.
  • Perform switching operations and clearance orders to provide safe working boundaries or zones of equipment isolation from sources of hazardous energy.
  • Respond to call-outs for operational emergencies on and off hours to support area Maintenance Responsibility Centers.
  • Support several local-area Maintenance Responsibility Centers in a non-travel status approximately 90% of the time.
  • Travel to various Maintenance Responsibility Centers across Arizona, which will require overnight stays, for the remaining 10% or more of duties.
