About The Position

As an integral member of the Facility Management Service department, the principal responsibilities of the Electrician include: installing and maintaining electrical circuits, all types of electrical equipment, appliances, lighting fixtures and other systems, as needed; troubleshooting and testing electrical systems and electronic equipment to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components; conducting preventative maintenance/repair responsibilities, following quality assurance and safety procedures continually; completing work orders; performing cross-functional and/or other duties as, assigned and/or required.

Requirements

  • At minimum completion of high school plus Electrician Apprenticeship program
  • 5 years, 9,000 hours of apprenticeship training, which includes approx. 8760 hours on-the-job training, 8 - 10 weeks (240 - 300 hours) of technical training in a classroom in each year for four years
  • Construction and Maintenance Electrician License – 309A
  • 5 to 8 years of practical and related experience and/or Apprenticeship 3 to 5 years on the job training required.
  • Good mathematical skills, required
  • Good strength and manual dexterity skills, required
  • Ability to distinguish colors to work with color-coded wiring, required
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, electrical schematics, and Electrical Code Book, required
  • Ability to work in constricted spaces, required
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task.
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies.
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand

Responsibilities

  • Installs and maintains electrical circuits, all types of electrical equipment, appliances, lighting fixtures and other systems, as needed.
  • Troubleshoots and tests electrical systems and electronic equipment to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance/repair responsibilities, following quality assurance and safety procedures continually.
  • Completes work orders.
  • Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner.
  • Performs cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required, including, maintaining all required records and information pertinent to the costing of work assignments; assisting with staff orientation, etc.
