About The Position

The Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) is seeking an Electrician to install, repair, maintain, and modify all lighting and power circuits, fixtures, controls, motors, pumps, and equipment operated from all voltage levels. This role involves planning installations, preparing sketches, installing conduit, splicing wires, connecting equipment, and testing systems to ensure safety and functionality. The Electrician will also perform maintenance on runway and pole lighting, work with bucket trucks, and adhere to all safety guidelines and policies. This position requires a commitment to safety, including participating in job safety analysis procedures and troubleshooting high-voltage systems. The employee is responsible for providing small hand tools necessary for the trade and performing other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Five years’ experience as a journeyman electrician.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the craft or equivalent training at an accredited trade or technical school, or military training.
  • Current, valid Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license or ability to obtain the same.
  • Considerable knowledge in the practices, methods, tools and materials of the Electrical trade.
  • Knowledge in occupational hazards and techniques of safety precautions and injury prevention programs.
  • Considerable ability to work according to standard practices, using the tools, materials and equipment of the trade.
  • Ability to use basic technology devices such as iPads and smart phones.
  • Ability to work well with others.

Responsibilities

  • Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
  • Prepare sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follow diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit.
  • Splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
  • Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.
  • Connect power cables to electrical equipment, lighting equipment motors, and install grounding leads.
  • Test continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, amp meter, and megger.
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Repair faulty equipment or systems.
  • Re-lamp & repair of runway lighting fixtures and repair or replacement of wiring circuits.
  • Bucket truck work re-lamping and repairing pole lighting.
  • Work safely and abide by all ACAA safety guidelines.
  • Develop or participate in the job safety analysis procedures.
  • Trouble shoot and splice high voltage repairs and/or installations.
  • Adhere to ACAA guidelines set forth by the Dress Code and Personal Protective Equipment policy.
  • Employee is required to provide small hand tools necessary for the trade.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned or required.
