About The Position

The Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME) serves as the organization’s top technical authority for electrical systems, equipment, and industrial controls. This role provides advanced expertise, guidance, and problem‑solving support across engineering, production, maintenance, and safety functions. The Electrical SME ensures all electrical work meets or exceeds NEC standards, drives technical excellence, and supports continuous improvement of electrical processes, training programs, and safety practices. The SME acts as a key resource for complex troubleshooting, design reviews, quality validation, and strategic electrical planning across industrial and commercial production environments.

Requirements

  • Completion of an NEC‑certified journeyman apprenticeship program or equivalent.
  • Minimum 16,000 hours of verifiable industrial or construction electrical experience.
  • 5+ years of technical experience specializing in controls, high-voltage systems, troubleshooting, or electrical engineering support.
  • Deep technical knowledge of electrical systems, industrial control wiring, power distribution, and equipment operation.
  • Strong understanding of materials, tools, and methods used in industrial electrical installations and control panel assembly.
  • Proven ability to interpret and evaluate electrical schematics, ladder logic, control diagrams, and wiring blueprints.
  • High proficiency using diagnostic tools including multimeters, MEGGERs, and other specialized test equipment.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills; ability to teach and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of NEC and OSHA electrical safety regulations.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and crouch for 8–10 hours per day; able to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must pass background check and drug screening.
  • Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Idaho Journeyman Electrical License (or reciprocity-eligible license) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical advisor on electrical systems, NEC compliance, control wiring, and high‑voltage equipment.
  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting support for complex electrical issues impacting production, machinery, or facility systems.
  • Review and validate schematic drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical documentation, and engineering designs for accuracy and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain technical standards, SOPs, and best practices for electrical installation, testing, and maintenance activities.
  • Support and mentor Electrical Journeymen, Electricians, Apprentices, and cross-functional teams as a technical coach and subject matter resource.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action initiatives for electrical failures, quality defects, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Oversee and advise on installation of electrical raceways, control panels, high-voltage gear, and industrial automation components.
  • Conduct advanced testing and validation of electrical systems using voltmeters, MEGGER testers, light meters, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, OSHA electrical safety standards, and company quality requirements.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews, project planning meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support training program development, including technical content creation and hands-on instruction.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Safety teams to resolve technical challenges and optimize electrical performance.
  • Champion safe work practices and promote a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Manager or Engineering leadership.
