About The Position

The Electrician Apprentice assists with electrical installations, modifications, testing, and equipment maintenance. The role involves reading blueprints and diagrams, preparing wiring-location sketches, and helping plan installations to reduce material waste and allow future maintenance access. Work includes installing concealed wiring before ceilings and flooring are completed, working around hazardous wiring, and safely using hand and power tools. The apprentice also helps maintain a clean and safe work environment and may assist with lifting and positioning materials and work pieces.

Requirements

• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Ability to safely work around hazardous wiring.
• Ability to safely traverse uneven terrain while carrying tools and building materials.
• Ability to climb vertical ladders and work above ground as necessary.
• Ability to use hand tools dexterously and safely operate power tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Read and understand blueprints and diagrams.
• Assist with modifying or planning installations to minimize material waste and provide access for future maintenance.
• Prepare sketches showing wiring and equipment locations, and ensure concealed wiring is installed before ceilings and flooring are completed.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit.
• Splice wires using hand tools, soldering equipment, tape, or terminal gaps.
• Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
• Install control and distribution apparatus, including switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels.
• Unwind and pull cable, and connect power cable to equipment.
• Test installed equipment for safety and electrical compatibility.
• Disassemble defective electrical equipment.
• Assist with lifting, positioning, and securing materials and work pieces during installation as needed.
• Clean and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Safely traverse uneven terrain with tools and building materials, climb vertical ladders, and work above ground as needed.
• Perform tasks requiring safe, dexterous use of hand tools and safely operate power tools and equipment.
