About The Position

The University of New Mexico is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Electrician 2 to join our Facility Services team. In this essential role, you’ll help power the campus by installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems that support learning, research, and innovation. Please Note: Because this is a pooled position posting it may require you to work in the Health Sciences Center (HSC) area of UNM. This means you will be working in medical laboratory research, medical clinical, and medical academic spaces. These HSC environments may require the donning of medically approved personal protective equipment (PPE). Additionally, this position is subject to overtime and on-call assignments, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support campus operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 4 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Possession of a current New Mexico Journeyman Electrician's License
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with commercial and industrial electrical systems
  • Familiarity with NEC and blueprint reading
  • OSHA certification for high-voltage work
  • Additional licensure such as EL-1J, EE-98, or JS11

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical controls, motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers.
  • Lay out and install new electrical secondary service including panels, breakers, disconnects, and switches.
  • Dismantle electrical machinery and replace defective parts such as brushes and armatures.
  • Install and maintain motors, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and transformers.
  • Interpret blueprints and work from sketches or verbal instructions.
  • Install grounding leads and ensure compliance with safety and electrical codes.
  • Use diagnostic tools to test and repair circuits, equipment, and appliances.
  • Perform inspections and monitor performance of installed electrical systems.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
