About The Position

The Department of General Services is searching for motivated Electricians to lead and problem solve complex electrical systems to ensure smooth operations throughout multiple historical facilities. As an Electrician 2, you will be supporting electrical systems across several state buildings by performing advanced installation, maintenance, and repair tasks. Your work helps ensure safe, reliable, and efficient electrical performance throughout the facilities.

Requirements

  • Six years of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, components, and equipment, including two years performing skilled electrical installation and repair work in commercial, industrial, or multi-unit residential structures; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes two years performing skilled electrical installation and repair work in commercial, industrial, or multi-unit residential structures.
  • Possession of a valid license as a journey-level electrician issued by the local Pennsylvania jurisdiction (City of Harrisburg).
  • Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal training in a high school or vocational program, apprenticeship, or post-high school technical program in the electrical trade
  • Possession of a Master's Electrician License
  • Electrical experience in a commercial or industrial setting
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Experience with 3 phase electrical systems
  • Experience working with voltages over 480v
  • Experience as a lead worker on an electrical project and/or job
  • Experience in snow removal with plows, snow blowers, or other snow removal equipment
  • Willing and able to occasionally work from ladders, scaffolding, bucket trucks, or man lifts

Responsibilities

  • Plan and complete electrical work involving wiring, lighting, controls, equipment, and distribution systems
  • Maintain current understanding of National Electrical Code standards and apply them to assigned tasks
  • Identify power failures, analyze issues, and correct short circuits or equipment faults
  • Assess locations for EV charging stations, review circuitry, create drawings, and prepare project materials
  • Use electrical meters and instruments to measure, test, and verify equipment performance
  • Guide trainees and electricians, assign tasks, and support training for future licensure
  • Report in-office during emergencies and office closings
