The Electrical Trades Assistant will maintain overall safe work practices and adhere to safety policies and procedures. This role ensures the quality of their own work and that correct construction procedures are followed in compliance with Austal USA standards and project specifications. The assistant must be able to receive and carry out verbal and written instructions, work as part of a team, and maintain housekeeping by keeping the worksite free of rubbish and materials/equipment stowed in an orderly manner. They are responsible for conserving waste of consumables and materials, and accountable for the completion of daily work assignments, including work completion and quality sign-offs. The role involves learning on-the-job as a trainee, assisting or working with other trades as directed, and monitoring the working environment for compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and health regulations, reporting deficiencies to the supervisor. The assistant must comply with Austal USA’s “Equal Opportunity and Anti-Harassment Policy” and the Employee Handbook. Key tasks include pulling cable in and outside of vessels, learning the fundamentals of electrical concepts and practices, and obtaining working knowledge of marine electrical installation of penetrations, packing, cable trays, hangers, and cable types/installation methods. Additionally, the assistant will learn the fundamentals of aluminum welding concepts and practices and must obtain and maintain a B Class CV fillet weld certification.
