Electrical Systems Integration Engineer

Bedrock Robotics Inc•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Bedrock is deploying autonomous systems on heavy construction equipment. The Electrical Systems Integration Engineer will design and integrate electrical systems for next-generation autonomous construction machines, bridging system architecture and physical implementation. The role covers power distribution, high-speed data links, and electrical distribution systems, integrating sensors, actuators, ECUs, compute, cleaning, and thermal systems. The position works cross-functionally with mechanical, software, operations, manufacturing, and external suppliers to deliver cohesive systems. It includes electrical and harness design, supplier coordination, prototype build bring-up, and troubleshooting and validation in lab and field settings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in vehicle or heavy machinery electrical systems integration.
  • Deep understanding of high-speed SerDes, including GMSL/FPD-Link, and Automotive Ethernet.
  • Hands-on experience with CAN/LIN network design and debugging.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software such as Cadonix Arcadia, Mentor Graphics Capital, or Zuken E3.series, and 3D routing tools such as OnShape, CATIA V5/V6 Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or Siemens NX.
  • Ability to manage multi-phase engineering projects and coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience managing harness vendors from initial RFQ through DFM cycles.
  • Understanding of harness manufacturing processes, including crimp validation (cross-sectioning), ultrasonic welding, and formboard assembly.
  • Experience selecting sleeving and sealing methods based on thermal requirements and exposure to environmental conditions, fluids, and debris.
  • Ability to perform continuity testing, insulation resistance testing (Hi-Pot), and TDR for high-speed data line validation.
  • Ability to build first-article harnesses by hand, including professional-grade crimping, de-pinning, and soldering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead physical and logical integration of the Bedrock autonomy kit onto machine platforms, ensuring electromagnetic compatibility and signal integrity.
  • Design and optimize low-voltage distribution systems, including wire sizing, fuse coordination, and grounding strategies.
  • Define and validate hardware-level communications for sensors and ECUs using GMSL, 100/1000BASE-T1 Automotive Ethernet, CAN, and LIN.
  • Use 3D CAD tools to model electrical routing, connector placements, and mounting solutions within mechanical envelopes.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for external suppliers and manage procurement of custom harnesses, sensors, and controllers from specification through delivery.
  • Manage integration timelines, track technical risks, and lead bring-up phases for prototype builds.
  • Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and CAN tools to diagnose and resolve system-level electrical issues during lab and field testing.
  • Develop 2D schematics and 3D wire routings for autonomous sensor suites, compute platforms, and power distribution units.
  • Specify and integrate cabling for high-speed data protocols, including GMSL, 100/1000BASE-T1, and 10G Ethernet.
  • Source and validate connectors, terminals, seals, and shielding materials suited to construction environments.
  • Implement shielding and grounding strategies to protect sensor data from high-frequency noise generated by autonomous compute and vehicle alternators.
