Electrical Systems Integration Engineer

Bedrock Robotics•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

As an Electrical Systems Integration Engineer at Bedrock Robotics, you will design and integrate the electrical systems for next-generation autonomous construction machines. The role bridges electrical architecture and physical implementation, encompassing power distribution networks, high-speed data links, and electrical distribution systems. You will work across mechanical, software, operations, and manufacturing teams to integrate sensors, actuators, electronic control units, compute, cleaning, and thermal systems into cohesive machine systems. The position includes end-to-end harness and component work, from design and supplier specification through prototype build, testing, and validation. You will lead integration on machine platforms, manage technical risks and timelines, and troubleshoot system-level electrical issues during laboratory and field testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in vehicle or heavy machinery electrical systems integration.
  • Deep understanding of high-speed SerDes, including GMSL/FPD-Link, and Automotive Ethernet.
  • Hands-on experience with CAN/LIN network design and debugging.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software and 3D routing tools.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-phase engineering projects and coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience managing harness vendors from initial RFQ through Design for Manufacturing cycles.
  • Deep understanding of harness manufacturing processes, including crimp validation by cross-sectioning, ultrasonic welding, and formboard assembly.
  • Experience selecting sleeving and sealing methods based on thermal requirements and exposure to environmental conditions, fluids, and debris.
  • Ability to perform continuity testing, insulation resistance (Hi-Pot) testing, and TDR for high-speed data line validation.
  • Ability to build first-article harnesses by hand, including professional-grade crimping, de-pinning, and soldering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead physical and logical integration of the Bedrock autonomy kit onto machine platforms, ensuring electromagnetic compatibility and signal integrity.
  • Design and optimize low-voltage distribution systems, including wire sizing, fuse coordination, and grounding strategies.
  • Define and validate hardware-level communications for sensors and ECUs using GMSL, 100/1000BASE-T1, CAN, and LIN.
  • Use 3D CAD tools to model electrical routing, connector placements, and mounting solutions within mechanical envelopes.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for external suppliers, managing procurement of custom harnesses, sensors, and controllers from specification through delivery.
  • Manage integration timelines, track technical risks, and lead bring-up phases for prototype builds.
  • Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and CAN tools to diagnose and resolve system-level electrical issues during lab and field testing.
  • Develop 2D schematics and 3D wire routings for autonomous sensor suites, compute platforms, and power distribution units.
  • Specify and integrate specialized cabling, including Shielded Twisted Pair, coax, and differential pairs, for high-speed data protocols.
  • Source and validate connectors, terminals, seals, and shielding materials suited to construction environments.
  • Implement shielding and grounding strategies to protect sensor data from high-frequency noise generated by autonomous compute and vehicle alternators.
