As the Electrical Schematic Designer, you will be responsible for supporting the development of complex electrical system designs, balancing responsibilities across CREO Schematics and electrical architecture and integration. You will be responsible for creating detailed electrical schematics, defining system architecture, supporting cross-functional engineering teams, and ensuring robust manufacturing designs that meet performance safety, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent technical degree.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Application Development Tools: Knowledge of application and system development; ability to utilize a variety of specific tools and toolkits for developing applications.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous engineering experience, with significant exposure to both electrical design and system architecture.
  • Previous experience with automotive, heavy equipment, aerospace, industry machinery, or similar industries.
  • Previous experience with PTC CREO Schematics or similar schematic/ECAD tools.
  • Understanding of CAN, Ethernet, or other communication protocols.
  • Demonstrated experience defining electrical system architecture for complex electromechanical products.
  • Solid understanding of wiring, harnessing, connectors, electrical components, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to interpret engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and compliance guidelines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to lead technical design-making.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the organization's industry group, trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations, and trendsetters; ability to apply industry knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update and maintain detailed 2D electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness drawings using PTC CREO Schematics.
  • Create and manage symbol libraries, parametric data, and model templates to ensure consistency and compliance with engineering standards.
  • Generate documentation packages including BOM’s, connector tables, wire/cable specs, and routing information.
  • Work closely with mechanical engineers to ensure accurate integration of electrical layout within mechanical constraints.
  • Conduct design reviews and implement engineering changes through structured change control processes (e.g., ECOs/ECNs).
  • Define and develop system-level electrical architecture, including power distribution, communication networks, grounding schemes, and hardware interfaces.
  • Support circuit and system-level design activities, including load analysis, component selection, harness design strategy, and topology definition.
  • Ensure architecture aligns with safety, regulatory, EMC/EMI, and product performance requirements.
  • Support FMEA, DFMEA, and system reliability assessments.
  • Collaborate with embedded software, controls, test, and manufacturing teams to validate system functionality and resolve integration issues.
  • Develop and manage system documentation including interface control documents (ICDs), electrical architecture diagrams, and requirements specifications.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.
