About The Position

Thorson Baker + Associates, Inc. is a mid-size multi-discipline consulting engineering firm specializing in institutional and commercial building design throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. We design buildings for various sectors including senior living, mixed-use, commercial, educational, and healthcare facilities, with a focus on sustainability. We are seeking an Electrical Project Engineering Manager to lead the design of electrical systems for these projects, manage client relationships, and oversee technical development from schematic design through construction administration. The role involves managing project teams, ensuring quality control, coordinating with various stakeholders, and preparing cost estimates. The position requires national travel for site visits and observations, and the ability to prepare technical reports. Our office is conveniently located midway between Cleveland and Akron.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) + years’ experience in the electrical design of electrical systems for buildings for senior living, mixed use, and commercial building systems.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Familiar with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Engineering Intern certification required.
  • Professional engineering license preferred.
  • Capable of attending and engaging in meetings with clients, owners, contractors, etc. in a positive and productive manner.
  • Good work ethic and efficient in job duties.
  • Willing to work extra hours above 40 hours a week when necessary to meet project deadlines and client demands.

Responsibilities

  • Design of electrical systems for senior living, mixed use, retail, and commercial projects, including preparing calculations and construction documents.
  • Manage project engineers, design engineers, and CAD/BIM technicians for building design projects, ensuring quality control.
  • Communicate and coordinate with architects, owners, other engineering disciplines, building officials, and consultants throughout design phases.
  • Prepare opinion of probable cost and review construction budgets and change orders.
  • Meet client schedules and internal design and construction administration time budgets.
  • Perform office construction administration, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and coordinating with contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Identify additional scope during design and construction phases and prepare additional services quotes.
  • Travel nationally for pre-design site visits, design meetings, and construction phase site observations, and prepare technical narrative reports.
