Electrical Power Systems Engineer BESS

Nidec Motor Corporation•Brooklyn Heights, OH

About The Position

The BESS Electrical Power Systems Engineer is an expert-level engineering professional responsible for the design, analysis, integration, and technical leadership of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and renewable energy solutions. The position serves as a subject matter expert in power systems engineering, grid interconnection, and energy storage applications, leading complex engineering efforts involving power system analysis, system architecture development, and customer-facing technical support. It operates with a high degree of autonomy and collaborates with customers, utilities, EPCs, consultants, product management, and engineering teams to develop safe, reliable, and cost-effective energy storage solutions. The role provides technical leadership for utility-scale BESS solutions and renewable energy applications across utility, commercial, and industrial settings. It develops system architectures, one-line diagrams, specifications, technical reports, and engineering documentation; performs and reviews electrical studies; supports utility interconnection and grid compliance; and addresses complex technical risks and issues. The engineer is also a primary technical resource for customers and stakeholders, supporting technical discussions, proposals, project reviews, testing, commissioning, and field activities. Success involves technical excellence, successful project execution, strategic influence on energy storage solutions, and support for business growth and long-term customer success. Domestic and international travel may be required up to 25% to customer locations, project sites, manufacturing facilities, and company locations. Commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and customer schedules may occasionally require work outside normal business hours, including evenings or weekends. The role includes indoor and outdoor work and requires wearing PPE according to facility and regulatory safety requirements.
