About The Position

This position performs complex advanced electrical and mechanical work and utilizes knowledge in various trades such as electrical (Switchgear, ATS, Generators, Lift stations) and HVAC (Motors and Controls), etc. to monitor, maintain, and repair STAR Center facilities and equipment. This position supervises direct reports in the completion of major improvement projects or maintenance projects with electrical and mechanical aspects. This Electrical/Mechanical 3 position is located at: STAR Center, 7887 Bryan Dairy Rd, Largo, FL.

Requirements

  • High school graduate and five (5) years of journeyman experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy mechanical equipment and machinery, and electrical repair and maintenance of equipment used in water or wastewater treatment plants, and one (1) year of supervisory experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver's License or Florida Commercial Driver's License and any endorsement(s) upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) driving report.
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
  • Possession and maintenance of a Florida Electrical License Certification.
  • Knowledge of the functions and servicing of electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade and local and national electrical practices and codes.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions, to include working with low and medium voltage power systems.
  • Ability to manage, assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of assigned personnel, budget, short term/long term scheduling, and administrative systems.
  • Knowledge of work hazards and safety associated with crafts, trades, and facilities work.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, plan, execute, and/or supervise ongoing projects related to electrical and mechanical maintenance, repairs, and operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics, equipment diagrams, draw sketches of proposed projects, plan assignments, order materials, and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and other automated systems to monitor work, enter, and retrieve information.
  • Ability to install, alter, repair, and maintain a variety of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to endure long periods of standing, walking, or working in inclement weather and possession of sufficient physical strength and agility to lift and move heavy objects.
  • Ability and strength to climb ladders and perform heavy manual labor for extended periods.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in engineering technology, electrical engineering or similar field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in highly complex facilities/industrial electrical work.
  • Experience in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fire alarm systems.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical, mechanical, and general maintenance activities.
  • Manage or supervise facility and equipment repair and maintenance activities performed on electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Utilize complex and comprehensive work management systems for project tracking.
  • Develop, improve, implement, and maintain section's Preventive Maintenance Program.
  • Oversee installation and maintenance of Transfer Switches and Medium Voltage Switchgear.
  • Install, maintain, overhaul, modify, and repair electrical fixtures and equipment including power appliances, machinery, circuits, electrical panels, fiber optics, underground conduit, motors, relays, switches, and control boxes.
  • Review, plan, maintain, improve, and approve lighting equipment in facility.
  • Detect and correct causes of electrical system failures.
  • Oversee and trains direct reports to detect and correct breakdowns in electrical equipment and performs field repairs and adjustments to electrical motors of up to 50 horsepower.
  • Oversee new low voltage wiring for electronic communications.
  • Operate special motorized equipment.
  • Install electrical equipment, including receptacles, motors, appliances, heating and cooling equipment, and transformers.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with electrical and mechanical codes.
  • Perform low (480 volt) voltage maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Perform installation, maintenance, modification, calibration, and repair of complex electrical power systems.
  • Use and maintain appropriate equipment, including hand, bench, and power tools during electrical repairs.
  • Purchase, plan and order a wide range of construction and maintenance materials, supplies, and inventory necessary for projects.
  • Perform other related job duties as assigned.
