About The Position

Smith Industries is seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Technician to join our Maintenance team. This is a hands-on industrial maintenance position responsible for keeping our fabrication equipment and electrical systems operating safely and reliably. The ideal candidate is a strong electrical troubleshooter who is comfortable working with industrial equipment, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, and 3-phase power systems. You will work closely with Production and other maintenance personnel to troubleshoot equipment failures, perform preventive maintenance, complete electrical installations, and minimize production downtime.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of industrial or commercial electrical maintenance experience preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or similar industrial environment strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of 3-phase power, motor controls, VFDs, and PLCs.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
  • Familiarity with NEC requirements and OSHA electrical safety practices, including LOTO and arc-flash requirements.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot equipment involving both electrical and mechanical systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical trade school, apprenticeship, or Journeyman Electrician license is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues on industrial production equipment, including welding machines, overhead cranes and hoists, cutting tables, compressors, and paint/blast booth systems.
  • Troubleshoot motors, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, relays, contactors, and low-voltage control circuits.
  • Test and repair wiring, breakers, disconnects, transformers, electrical panels, and related components.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and safely restore equipment to service as quickly as possible.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and electrical inspections.
  • Identify potential electrical failures before they result in unplanned downtime.
  • Install circuits, panels, motors, conduit, wiring, cable, and equipment connections.
  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of new fabrication equipment, cranes, and shop infrastructure.
  • Read and troubleshoot from electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
  • Follow all lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc-flash, OSHA, NEC, and company safety requirements.
  • Coordinate repairs with Production and other maintenance personnel to minimize disruption to operations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
  • Assist with maintaining electrical parts, tools, and spare-parts inventory.
  • Participate in occasional evening, weekend, or emergency equipment repairs as needed.
