About The Position

This position will report to BBEC, LLC, a subsidiary of HB Global. The Electrical Estimator will analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates for electrical work. This role involves identifying potential project risks, incorporating risk management strategies, and preparing detailed cost breakdowns and timelines for proposals and bids. The estimator will communicate with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to obtain current pricing and availability, and participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits. They will review and adjust estimates as project scope or costs change, and support project handoff to operations. The role requires preparing detailed cost estimates based on all levels of design documents, developing high-quality RFP deliverables, and assisting the Project Management Team in developing cost codes. Obtaining and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotes, distributing qualification documents, and developing detailed proposal letters or bid forms are also key responsibilities. The estimator will participate in estimate reviews and prepare GMP proposals and estimates in various formats. Design-build and conceptual estimating, as well as reviewing contract documents for project requirements and obligations, are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction methods, materials, and industry practices on commercial/industrial projects.
  • Complete understanding of design drawings, specs, proposals and other elements related to estimates for projects.
  • Knowledge of the NEC, NFPA 70E and other related electrical codes and standards.
  • Proficient in estimation software (Accubid Anywhere, MS Office Suite (Excel, Word)).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, and project team members.
  • 5 or more years of experience in the electrical construction industry required.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, installation practices, and applicable codes and standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in electrical estimating for commercial and industrial construction projects is preferred; 5+ years is strongly desired.
  • Prior design-build estimating experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates for electrical work.
  • Identify potential project risks and incorporate risk management strategies in estimates.
  • Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and timelines for proposals and bids.
  • Communicate with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to obtain current pricing and availability.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess project requirements and site conditions.
  • Review and adjust estimates as project scope or costs change during the bidding or project planning process.
  • Support project handoff to operations, ensuring all stakeholders are informed of estimate details.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates based on all levels of design documents.
  • Work with others in the Group to develop RFP deliverables that are of the highest quality, accurate, and coincide with RFP expectations.
  • Assist the Project Management Team in developing cost codes applicable to project scope.
  • Obtain vendor and subcontractor quotes and evaluate for completeness and best price for use in bid (Abide by our purchasing policy and ethics).
  • Distribute qualification documents as required for the bid (MBE, WBE, experience, key individuals, etc.).
  • Develop a detailed proposal letter or bid form.
  • Participate in the estimate review process with manager.
  • Prepare GMP proposals and estimates in various formats as the customer dictates.
  • Design-build and conceptual estimating.
  • Review all contract documents to become familiar with project requirements and obligations under the contract and apply them to pricing (schedule, specifications, drawings, safety manual, etc.), reviewing documents for accuracy and consistency.
