About The Position

Join Orange EV, a fast-growing manufacturer of electric vehicles that are better for the earth, people, and the bottom line. Make a difference for the world as part of a company leading the electric vehicle revolution. We are seeking an Electrical Engineering Technician that are responsible for supporting start-up, documenting issues and resolution, and working with the software and process team to resolve issues found in start-up. This role builds, instruments, and tests prototype and limited-production vehicles, and serves as the senior technical escalation point for production start-up issues — diagnosing electrical, communication, and software faults using CAN tools and driving root cause with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate pairs hands-on fabrication and test skill with strong CAN bus / electrical diagnostic depth, and is comfortable leading assessments, mentoring technicians, and owning process improvement across both the prototype and start-up/production floor environments. This role reports to a Production Supervisor within the Production organization.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience spanning prototype fabrication/test and electronic testing, repair, or manufacturing support — preferably in electric vehicles.
  • Ability to integrate test beds with a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) enabling real-time pass/fail data logging and process enforcement across the production floor
  • Strong understanding of CAN bus operation, high-voltage DC systems, and voltage system isolation.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools like PCAN/CANoe, multimeters and oscilloscopes
  • Hands-on fabrication skill with sheet metal, assembly tools, and electrical wiring.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; detail-oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or related software.
  • Problem-Solving: Identifying complex technical issues and developing logical, efficient solutions under pressure.
  • Detail Oriented: High precision is required for assembling and repairing sensitive components where minor errors can cause system failures.
  • Communication: Ability to follow detailed engineering instructions and convey technical problems clearly to both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Proficiency in algebra, geometry, and basic calculus for calculating voltages, resistance, and other technical specifications.
  • Physical Dexterity: Stamina for long periods of standing, the ability to work in confined spaces or at heights, and fine motor skills for handling small circuitry.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanic or comparable certification
  • Experience working in Manufacturing industries preferred
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the vehicle industry a plus

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve production issues at the OEV plant using a variety of software diagnostic and CAN analysis tools.
  • Investigate communication between automotive microcontroller units (MCUs) to identify and troubleshoot communication failures.
  • Analyze and trace communication-related issues to pinpoint underlying electrical circuit faults.
  • Demonstrate a strong willingness to learn EV industry standards and progressively develop the ability to independently assess, troubleshoot, and resolve engineering issues.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Process teams to document vehicle start-up issues, perform root cause analysis, and record corrective actions and resolutions.
  • Define and build test beds including defining objectives, listing requirements, and validating tests.
  • Setting up and operating test equipment to analyze the performance of components under simulated conditions and verify compliance with design specifications.
  • Diagnosing technical faults in circuits, control systems, and machinery, and implementing repairs or modifications.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to clarify design details; writing technical reports to record test results and equipment failures.
  • Performing preventive maintenance and calibration on electrical instruments and inspecting designs for quality assurance.
  • Assisting engineers with research, data collection, cost estimation, and procurement of necessary electrical supplies.
  • Establish goals, communicate effectively with team members, and track completion progress.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage new technologies and methods that enable the team to deliver successful outcomes across prototype and production diagnostic work.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools and equipment; present justifications to leadership.
  • Anticipate issues and provide options for success that align with cross-functional teams.
  • Identify and implement process improvements; contribute to performance evaluations for supporting technicians.
  • Develop and maintain a safe work environment and mindset.
  • Maintain equipment, tool cabinets, prototype/engineering bays, and the start-up area to 5S standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
