The Leonardo DRS Naval Power Systems business is a trusted provider of innovative naval gas and hybrid power systems, control technology and support solutions for the U.S. Navy and navies around the world. This role involves the design, development, modification, and analysis of various electronics systems, potentially including Hardware, Power Engineering, Power Electronic Engineering, Electromagnetic Engineering, Integrated Circuit Engineering, and Components. The technician will troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in existing products or systems, make necessary modifications, and compile and evaluate design and test data. They will analyze, develop, and recommend design approaches, supporting engineering with moderately complex duties and hands-on tasks. The position requires the ability to work independently for several days and comfort with shop/laboratory environments and equipment. Responsibilities also include assisting in the design, build, and/or procurement of new or improved machines, tools, fixtures, and material handling equipment, and coordinating their implementation. The role involves completing process documentation, bill of materials, and route sheets. Additionally, the technician will review project instructions and drawings to understand test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, and technical problems, supporting design for manufacture. They will devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified electrical and/or mechanical components or assemblies, set up and conduct tests of units and components, and analyze test results, adjusting equipment to meet specifications. Recording test procedures, results, data, and recommendations, as well as providing and developing documentation for equipment maintenance, are key duties. The role may involve leading technician teams, mentoring other technicians, and providing hands-on feedback to engineers. Support, communication, reinforcement, and defense of the organization's mission, values, and culture are expected. The technician will assist in developing plant layouts, manufacturing methods, and process improvements, and may coordinate maintenance projects. Mentoring and coaching less experienced technicians is also part of the role.
