BIRD TECHNOLOGIES GROUP INCSolon, OH
Onsite

About The Position

The Electrical Engineering Intern will support the development of an engineering laboratory test environment for evaluating RF power sensors. This role focuses on hands-on lab setup, RF measurement techniques, and automation of test equipment using Python and MATLAB. The intern will work closely with engineering staff to build repeatable test capabilities and contribute to the characterization of RF measurement systems.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Completed coursework in Circuits and electronics
  • Basic programming experience (Python preferred)
  • Familiarity with laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes or signal generators
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to clearly document technical work

Nice To Haves

  • Completed coursework in Signals and systems
  • Exposure to RF fundamentals (frequency domain concepts, impedance, S-parameters)
  • Experience with MATLAB
  • Familiarity with instrument communication protocols (e.g., SCPI, VISA)
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment
  • Interest in test and measurement systems or RF engineering

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the setup and configuration of RF test equipment, including: Arbitrary Waveform Generators (AWG), Vector Network Analyzers (VNA), Spectrum Analyzers, RF Power Sensors.
  • Develop and document laboratory test setups for RF power sensor evaluation.
  • Write scripts in Python to automate control of laboratory instruments (e.g., via SCPI, VISA, or similar interfaces).
  • Create and maintain a library of test waveforms for AWG-based signal generation using MATLAB and/or Python.
  • Execute test plans and collect measurement data for analysis and comparison.
  • Assist in debugging and troubleshooting test setups, instrumentation, and measurement discrepancies.
