Electrical Engineering Professional - MEP
About The Position
Kimley-Horn's St. Paul, Minnesota (MN) office is seeking an Electrical Engineering Professional with 8+ years of experience to join their MEP team. This is not a remote position. The role involves supporting the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing team, specifically focusing on large-scale HVAC design. The professional will lead the design and analysis of complex electrical systems for MEP projects, developing design documents and reports such as electrical layouts, equipment schematics, block diagrams, electrical system calculations, and one-line diagrams. Daily interaction and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams across different Kimley-Horn offices are expected. Responsibilities also include preparing project specifications, electrical construction cost estimates, and proposals to support the growth of electrical engineering services. The role is expected to assist in mentoring, training, and growing a team to expand the MEP practice. Further responsibilities include developing reports and design documents, such as electrical design plans, equipment selection, solar system sizing, and power analyses. Coordination with specialists for fire alarm, technology, and lighting design, as well as with architects and other engineers for equipment power needs and electrical distribution sizing, is also required.
Requirements
- 8+ years experience in an Electrical Engineering role
- Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE and ANSI Standards
- Willingness to travel to support site visits and client meetings, as needed
- Ability to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff
Nice To Haves
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months) preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
- Experience in utility-scale PV, MEP, HVAC, wind generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, microgrid, substation, or data center designs
- Experience in engineering project management
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Experience in power system analysis using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent
- Experience in transient studies using PSCAD, EMTP-RV, or equivalent
- Experience in lighting designs and photometrics using AGI32, or equivalent
- Comfortable programming in Python or MATLAB
Responsibilities

- Prepare project specifications, electrical construction cost estimates, and proposals, supporting the growth of electrical engineering service areas in the local market and across the country
- Expected to assist in mentoring, training, and growing a team to expand our MEP practice
- Responsible for the development of reports and design documents, including electrical design plans, equipment selection, solar system sizing, and power analyses
- Coordinate with specialists for fire alarm, technology and lighting design as required by project scope of work
- Coordinate with architects, mechanical/plumbing engineers and other disciplines for equipment power needs and sizing electrical distribution
