About The Position

Kimley-Horn's St. Paul, Minnesota (MN) office is seeking an Electrical Engineering Professional with 8+ years of experience to join their MEP team. This role focuses on large-scale HVAC design and involves leading the design and analysis of complex electrical systems for MEP projects. The position requires the development of design documents, reports, electrical layouts, equipment schematics, block diagrams, electrical system calculations, and one-line diagrams. Daily interaction and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, including those in other Kimley-Horn offices, are expected. The role also involves preparing project specifications, electrical construction cost estimates, and proposals to support the growth of electrical engineering services locally and nationally. A key aspect of this position is assisting in mentoring, training, and growing a team to expand the MEP practice. Responsibilities include developing reports and design documents such as electrical design plans, equipment selection, solar system sizing, and power analyses. Coordination with specialists for fire alarm, technology, and lighting design, as well as with architects and other engineers for equipment power needs and distribution sizing, is also required.

Requirements

• 8+ years experience in an Electrical Engineering role
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months) preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
• Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE and ANSI Standards
• Willingness to travel to support site visits and client meetings, as needed
• Ability to work in a team; both collaborating with and mentoring junior staff

Nice To Haves

• Experience in utility-scale PV, MEP, HVAC, wind generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, microgrid, substation, or data center designs
• Experience in engineering project management
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Experience in power system analysis using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent
• Experience in transient studies using PSCAD, EMTP-RV, or equivalent
• Experience in lighting designs and photometrics using AGI32, or equivalent
• Comfortable programming in Python or MATLAB

Responsibilities

• Support our Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing team specifically working on large scale HVAC design
• Lead the design and analysis of complex electrical systems for MEP projects
• Responsible for the development of design documents and reports, including electrical layouts, equipment schematics and block diagrams, electrical system calculations, and one-line diagrams
• Daily interaction and collaboration on multi-disciplinary teams, with interaction across Kimley-Horn offices
• Prepare project specifications, electrical construction cost estimates, and proposals, supporting the growth of electrical engineering service areas in the local market and across the country
• Assist in mentoring, training, and growing a team to expand our MEP practice
• Responsible for the development of reports and design documents, including electrical design plans, equipment selection, solar system sizing, and power analyses
• Coordinate with specialists for fire alarm, technology and lighting design as required by project scope of work
• Coordinate with architects, mechanical/plumbing engineers and other disciplines for equipment power needs and sizing electrical distribution
